For the last 15 years, "noneck" has explored creative spaces and innovative technologies that links us together. His work has focused on building communities, transforming organizations to embrace participatory frameworks, and deploying free and open source technology to connect all of in-between-bits.

Currently, he works for Code for America as NYC's program manager and organizes the Nation's largest open government and civic technology meetup betaNYC.

Noel has a storied past of changing the world. He co-founded the New York City Transparency Working Group, a group of NYC civic groups who advocate for greater transparency in city government. In 2012, nycTWG lobbied for the passing of NYC Local Law 11 of 2012, then America's premier municipal Open Data law. In 2009, he forged the NYC cycling community to use #BikeNYC as peer-to-peer method of organizing and communicating. In 2005, he co-founded one of the first Drupal User Groups, the NYC's Drupal user group and hosted the first DrupalCamp.

He's journeyed around the world documenting communities that live on the Internet and life-casted the process of becoming a New York City Yellow Cab driver. In 2009, Noneck traveled to Iraq to teach Government minsters on the power of Open Government. He is an Eagle Scout, a member of British Council's Transatlantic Network 2020 program.

From 2009 till 2011, Noel served the New York State Senate as the Director of Technology Innovation where his team launched NYSenate.gov, one USA's premier state legislative portals; organized the first unconference inside a State house, CapitolCamp. From June 2011 till October 2012, he worked at the World Economic Forum.

In November 2012, Noel joined Code for America as their NYC Program Manager.

personal statement

as a gemini, i am constantly doing new and interesting things to improve the state of the world. in the spirt of the original scouting oath, i will always do my best, to fulfill my duties, and help others at all times.

i am blessed to have explored life's constantly intersecting foot paths and highways. through my 'round the world journeys, i've experienced humanity's similarities and bare witness to our interdependance.

from organizing to presenting, you will find me involved in numerous grassroots empowered conversations - from unconferences and meetups around the world - to the British Council's TransAtlantic Network 2020 summit, to sessions at the salzburg seminar, to the lift conference in geneva, to Reboot in copenhagen, or conversations focused on journalism hosted by Transitions Online or Grupo de Diarios America (GDA) and the Andean Development Corporation.
